The Coffee is Always On: A Glimpse Inside Housing & Financial Stability
If you were to walk into our office on a Tuesday morning, you’d hear a very specific sound. It isn’t just the hum of printers or the clicking of keys; it’s the sound of heavy sighs turning into exhaled relief. The Housing and Financial Stability (HFS) department isn’t built on transactions; it’s built on the belief that stability is the foundation of a good life.
Who Are We?
We are a small but mighty crew of ten—a director, department manager, program coordinator, intake specialist, and four HUD-certified counselors—showing up every day to help our neighbors navigate some of life’s biggest hurdles. The People in the Hallways We aren’t a faceless agency. We are the Intake Specialist who greets you with a genuine smile because they know how much courage it took for you to walk through the door. We are the Program Coordinator who works behind the scenes like a master weaver, making sure every class and every appointment fits together, so no one falls through the cracks. Our four Housing Counselors are the heart of the operation. They don’t just teach homebuyers education or money management; they sit across the table from people and listen. They are the ones who stay late to make sure a foreclosure prevention plan is just right, and the ones who celebrate the loudest when a rental counseling client finally gets their keys. Leading the way are our Director and Department Manager, who see the big picture. Their work isn’t just about oversight; it’s about making sure this community remains a place where people can afford to live, grow, and stay.
Why We Show Up
The truth is that this work is hard. It’s emotional. It involves digging through complicated finances and facing tough housing markets. But our dedication comes from a simple place: we care about this community. We don’t see “cases” or “files.” We see the young couple hoping for their first backyard, the senior citizen wanting to keep their family home, and the individual working three jobs just to get ahead of the rent. We aren’t here to sell stability, we’re here to work alongside you to find it. Because when the lights are on in a home down the street and a family feels secure, this whole community is stronger—and our team sleeps a little better.
