Who is NMCAA?
Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency
The Collective Us is an inspiring NMCAA podcast that is designed to share community stories, highlight their programs, and provide insight into how the organization supports their neighbors and individuals through various life stages. In the inaugural episode, Ryan Buck and Erica Austin interview Kerry Baughman, the executive director of NMCAA. Baughman discusses the origins of Community Action agencies, established in the 1960s under President LBJ’s Economic Opportunity Act, that empowers communities and individuals by addressing their specific needs. Serving 10 counties across Northwest Michigan, NMCAA is one of the 27 such agencies in Michigan. Baughman emphasizes the unique governance structure, which includes elected officials, private citizens, and consumers, ensuring the agency remains attuned to the community’s needs.
