Home Delivered Meals

Senior Support

Meals on Wheels | Home Delivered Meals

Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency is proud to offer Northwest Michigan Meals on Wheels. This program continuously dedicates itself to serving home delivered meals. We understand as people grow older, leaving the house may be more challenging. That’s why we offer home delivered meals for seniors. When seniors sign-up for home delivery, they receive more than just a meal. They receive a team of volunteers that deeply care for them. Along with home delivered meals for seniors, Meals on Wheels offers senior luncheons at various locations. Furthermore, if you need assistance you can give us a call today.

Additional Information

Meals on Wheels of NMCAA does not charge for meals for eligible seniors. Many of our seniors make a voluntary donation of $4.00 per meal – some give more, some give less, some not at all. We don’t want money to be a concern for seniors. We’re just happy to have seniors join us. The actual cost of each meal averages $8.03. No one is denied service due to an inability to contribute.

Frozen meals are delivered once per week based on clients’ needs and location. These meals are designed to be the main meal of the day.

Of course we offer various meal plans. In summary, some people may receive Meals on Wheels for a week or two following hospitalization. Ultimately, we are here to support your needs.

All meals are designed to be lower sodium, with the average of 800-1000mg sodium per meal over the course of the week. A few changes can be made for diabetics (sugar-free desserts only, meals are not altered), chopped or pureed foods, milk (whole, 2%, skim or none), no bread, or no fruit.

Meals are created to be delicious and nutritious; our cooks put a lot of love into the meals. Menus are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, approved by a dietitian, and contain a wide variety of well-balanced nutritious meals. Each meal consists of a protein-rich entree, two vegetables, fruit, bread, and milk. Desserts are also provided. Non-perishable shelf stable meals are provided for situations when Meals on Wheels is unable to deliver due to inclement weather or other emergencies.

If individuals do not meet the eligibility requirements and are interested in receiving Meals on Wheels, they may purchase them on a Private Pay basis for $10.00/meal.
