Great Start Readiness Program
Great Start Readiness Program (GRSP)
The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is Michigan’s state-funded preschool program for four-year-olds. Above all, it focuses on preparing children for kindergarten by providing high-quality early childhood education that meets state standards. Beyond that, GSRP emphasizes play-based learning, social-emotional development, and essential school readiness skills. Additionally, GSRP offers family engagement opportunities and supportive services. This ensures children receive the help they need to succeed. The program is free for eligible families and aims to close the achievement gap while promoting long-term academic success for children.
Why GSRP Matters
Importance of GSRP
In fact, research clearly highlights the importance of programs like GSRP in preparing children for kindergarten and beyond. Firstly, by age five, children have developed 90% of their brain. This makes early learning experiences, such as those provided by GSRP, critical. Secondly, studies show that children who participate in high-quality preschool programs such as GSRP demonstrate higher levels of school readiness. This includes better language and literacy skills as well as improved social skills, along with proven increases in cognitive development. Thirdly, these gains benefit children academically and have long-term effects, which creates higher high school graduation rates along with greater success in adulthood. Lastly, GSRP goes beyond early education; it lays a strong foundation for a successful future. Fill out an interest form to get started.
