Nurturing Northwest Michigan

At Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency, we deeply commit ourselves to helping the community. That’s why we have created several programs specifically designed to address food-related challenges that community members face. As you explore the food programs below, you will likely find the right support for yourself or someone you know.

About Meals On Wheels (MOW)

Learn More about our Home-Based Options

Meals on Wheels (MOW) delivers much more than just nutritious meals to frail, homebound seniors who can’t prepare food and often live alone. In addition to this essential service, we also provide compassion, companionship, and peace of mind. Additionally, we focus on nourishing seniors in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, and Wexford counties.

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

Learn More about TEFAP

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) not only supplements the diets of income-eligible individuals but also offers free emergency food and nutrition assistance. Under this program, the USDA supplies food to states, which then distribute it through local agencies. In Michigan, Community Action Agencies and food banks work together to ensure this food effectively reaches local sites.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

Learn More about CSFP

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) offers more than just nutrition education; it also provides monthly supplemental foods to promote health for individuals aged 60 or older who meet income guidelines. Through this program, we aim to significantly improve the overall well-being of our seniors by ensuring they receive the nutrition they need. Additionally, our program helps address any gaps in their dietary needs, supporting a healthier lifestyle.

Northwest Michigan Food Coalition

Learn More about The Northwest Michigan Food Coalition

The Northwest Michigan Food Coalition is a group of organizations and individuals who come together to empower member food programs by coordinating and creating resources to achieve regional food security. The food coalition works to find new resources for the coalition through grants, community outreach and policy work. NMCAA is a member of the Northwest Michigan Food Coalition and acts as the fiduciary, helping fight against food insecurity in our region.
