Family Self-sufficiency

Family Self-Sufficiency Program

Every family benefits from support, especially during significant life transitions like expecting a baby or pursuing economic independence. Programs like Expectant Families and the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program understand these needs. Our Family Self-Sufficiency Program offers customizable support to help families thrive. Parenthood is rewarding but comes with challenges. Achieving economic self-sufficiency also requires determination and guidance. These NMCAA programs provide the necessary tools, resources, and encouragement.

The FSS program, managed by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), helps housing voucher participants achieve independence over five years. Families work with a case manager to assess strengths, identify barriers, as well as set achievable goals. This personalized approach helps participants gain employment, access education, and develop skills like budgeting and financial management. The program also helps improve credit and financial stability. This can reduce the need for rental assistance.

Additionally, the FSS program allows participants to escrow money. This feature provides a safety net and encourages long-term planning. Families in this program receive support that addresses immediate needs while also building a stronger future.

By combining the personalized care of the Expectant Families program with the strategic support of the FSS program, families can confidently navigate parenthood and economic independence. These programs ensure families have the resources and support to thrive. This comprehensive approach creates a nurturing and financially stable environment where families can flourish.
